Chin Reduction Treatment

Aesthetic Treatments

At Gippsland Aesthetic Clinic, we are pleased to offer the new TGA approved Non – Surgical Treatment to get rid of chin fat, which is the reason for your ‘‘double chin”.

It is the only TGA approved non-surgical injectable treatment for the reduction of fullness under the chin.

Until now treatment options for submental fullness have been restricted to surgical options such a liposuction and non – surgical laser or similar equipment with potentially limited improvements.

Fullness under the chin is caused by aging, genetics, weight loss or weight gain.

The injections contain an acid that is found naturally in the body and helps break down fat. When injected into the fatty area, the product permanently destroys the fat cells. Once the cells have been destroyed they cannot store fat again, resulting in a more contoured jawline.

Patients that are suitable for this treatment are those who have reasonable to good skin quality, not too loose, and mild to moderate submental fat.

The average person needs at least 2 treatments spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart. However depending on the severity of submental fullness a patient may need up to 6 treatments in order to achieve desired results. Results take up to 6 weeks to notice the effects usually not until the second treatment, hence the treatment intervals are 4 – 6 weeks apart.

The treatment is generally well tolerated. A local Anaesthetic is used prior to treatment so you will barely feel the sequences of small injections into the area under the chin. Side effects may include:

  • Injection site discomfort and erythema
  • Swelling and firmness are common after the injections, it peaks at around day 2 – 3 post treatment, lasting around 7 – 10 days, progressively subsiding over the next few weeks.
  • Bruising which usually disappears after 1 week.
  • Altered sensation – which can take a few weeks to return to normal, usually this side effect is mild and resolves without intervention.
  • The final result may take up to 10 months to achieve. Once you reach your final goal, the final result will last 4 years or more.
